Community Education

Building Awareness through our Speakers’ Bureau

volunteer crisis training

One of the goals of the Suicide and Crisis Center of North Texas is to provide the community with information about suicide. Public awareness about suicide, as well as resources for emergency mental health near me, is an important aspect of successful crisis intervention. With this goal in mind, we have established a Speakers’ Bureau composed of experienced volunteers who offer an audience a unique perspective on suicide and prevention. Our speakers are trained to make presentations throughout the community to such groups as corporations, schools, agencies, service organizations, and churches.

The presentations include information about the center and the suicide hotline number, warning signs for suicide, suicide awareness, prevention, and the survivors’ programs. Presentations can include panels of individuals who have lost someone to suicide and are willing to share their stories. We share about emergency mental health resources and what to expect from a suicide hotline number.

Testimonial:

“I just want to thank SCC for the services that it provides to the community. I appreciate the personal time and information the panel of speakers provided to my class this semester. I have already heard from several students, and they are as touched as I am with the stories and strength of the panel. I am so thankful that I found SCC and all of you wonderful souls that want to bring community awareness to this topic.”
